NYCFC vs. Atlanta United FC Recap
In what was, so far, one of the most important games of the season, the boys came up short late.
Atlanta is obviously one of the most talented teams in the league, but that’s not a good excuse for either of their goals during the game. In the first, Gressells cross to Martinez’s first goal was fucking incredible, but Chanot had bad positioning and Johnson didn’t take a good angle on what should have been a fairly easy near-post deflection. Pity Martinez drew a fairly easy penalty on Sands as well, which just comes down to playing better defense in the box. The 5-3-2 formation just seemed to constantly have holes against Atlanta’s 3-4-3 in general.
Notes: Herber probably should have started. He’s been on a tear, and his goal was a god damn ROCKET. In my dumb FIFA player brain, I would love to have Héber and Castellanos side by side with Mitrita as a CAM. But that also thins out the bench presence and doesn’t necessarily fit Torrent’s scheme.
